OFFSHORE wind energy has moved with astonishing speed from being little more than an environmentalist's dream a few years ago to a vast industry set to provide 4% of Europe's electricity by 2020 with commensurate growth in jobs, associated industries and port development. Still faster growth is expected in the decade after that, with capacity in Europe rising to 150GW by 2030, enough to cover 14% of the European Union's (EU) total energy demand and avoid 315 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, according to the European Wind Energy Association ...
