EU MINISTERS APPROVE EU FINANCING FOR FISHING HEALTH AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

BY KEITH NUTHALL THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) Council of Ministers has eased EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) rules regarding the expansion of EU fishing fleets to improve health and safety standards within the industry. It has voted to allow member states to replace 4% of any subsidised reduction in fleet tonnage capacity undertaken between 2003 and 2006, so long as there is no resulting ability to catch more fish.
