BRUSSELS PUSHES FOR MORE WATER CONSERVATION

BY KEITH NUTHALL

THE EUROPEAN Commission is pushing for European Union (EU) citizens to use less electricity, predicting future droughts and water scarcity. It wants higher water pricing, and for users to pay for water regardless of its source. In a 'Communication' policy paper, Brussels has called for stricter metering requirements, and water-saving devices on showers, sinks and toilets, claiming up to 40% of EU water resources are wasted. * http://ec.europa.eu/environment/water/quantity/pdf/comm_droughts/communication.pdf
