EUROPEAN COMMISSION ORDERS BANANAS CARTEL RAID

THE EUROPEAN Commission has sent formal allegations to banana producers, exporters and importers, claiming that they have participated in an illegal cartel dividing and controlling Europe's banana market. Banana giants Dole and Fyffes have confirmed they are among the companies accused of breaking European Union anti-trust laws. Dole quickly denied the charges.
