SOLAR energy in Africa ought to be a no brainer. The continent has lot of sun, and weak electricity supplies, especially in the Sahel and sub-Saharan Africa. And yet, climate finance that has developed since the Paris climate change agreement of 2015, that could help grow green energy in this sunny continent, has not focused on Africa. Indeed, Ousseynou Nakoulima, director of renewable energy and energy efficiency at the African Development Bank (AfDB), has said that in 2016, just 3% of available climate finance was spent on carbon reduction projects in Africa. ...
