THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) has set out plans for a future trading relationship with the UK after the current transitional period, where Britain follows EU rules, expires on December 31 – it includes unfettered free trade in food and drink products, without tariffs and without restrictive quotas. Under the proposals, the UK and EU would also not impose authorisation requirements on food and drink traded between them, unless approved in a future economic partnership deal.
