BY KEITH NUTHALL A EUROPEAN Union (EU) healthcare fraud project says it is now developing automated fraud detection systems that can discover up to 90% of such crimes. The iWebcare project is claiming healthcare fraud has "a staggering estimated cost of Euro 30 billion per year". Its researchers are developing "a web platform with advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) tools" to fight the problem across Europe, having been inspired by the successes of the UK National Health Service's Counter Fraud Service (CFS).
