UKRAINE SECURES FINANCING DEAL TO SHORE UP GAS TRANSMISSION TO EUROPE

THE UKRAINE government has secured a major loan package designed to secure its reliability as a winter suppler of gas to Europe through improving its gas storage and distribution. The European Commission welcomed the deal, which it helped broker. Its president José Manuel Barroso said: "The agreement should provide the stability needed to significantly reduce the risk of a further gas crisis between Ukraine and Russia."
