BY KEITH NUTHALL A EUROPEAN Commission official has warned the Drinks Bulletin that there could be a tough fight ahead over agreeing proposals made before Christmas on reforming European Union (EU) rules on selling spirits. The senior official, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that although a political deal within the Commission had been struck to overcome concerns in Estonia, Finland, Poland and Sweden about allowing vodka to be made with ingredients other than the traditional grain, potato, sugar beat and molasses, this was far from the final result.
